How To Create a Master Page and Apply the Setting to Other Pages?

First, you must create a master page in Visual Editor in Headway Premium Wordpress Theme and then apply the look and feel to the rest of your pages.

  1. In the visual editor, select the font, color, page layout & sidebar you want in the index page. This index page will be your master page from now.
  2. Go to top left hand panel, select “Linking” and “Save and Link”
  3. A pop-up box will appear with 2 columns for you to select the pages to inherit the look like the master page.
  4. If you want the pages “About” and “Contact Us” under “Link to Pages” to inherit the look and feel, select them.
  5. Also, under “Link to System Pages” column, select those pages you want the same look and feel but DO NOT select “Blog Index”.
  6. Click “Save and Link” to save and click “Save all changes” to finish.
Now you will get a blog with the same design, widgets or look and feel. However, you will soon notice one problem. The problem with such method is that it will inherit whatever is on the master page including the body layout. In order to break away the linking to the master page, here are the steps:
  1. Go to visual editor, at the right hand top panel, select the page you want to break the link so tha your current page will not copy the body text.
  2. For example, select “Single Post” and click “Switch to Layout”.
  3. Click “Leafs” on the left hand panel and under the “Utilities”, you will see the following message:
If you wish to customize the layout for this page, go to the linking options in the top menu and disable linking (set both select boxes to the blank option then save) to make a unique layout for this page, save, and reload the visual editor.
  1. Go to “Linking” at the top panel and select “Linking Options”
  2. Under “System Pages” select a blank space, close the box and click on “Save All Changes” to save.
  3. Then reload visual editor to see the changes
Your current page should now break away from your Master page so any changes to the Master page in future will not have any effect on other pages. This method may seem to be a little too cumbersome but I guess Headway Premium Wordpress Theme is made to customize every page to have different look and feel. Hopefully, they can make it a bit easier to have global setting in future upgrade.
